The newest Enola Holmes film has been a hit with fans. However, Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown is facing some criticism after comments she made about kissing co-star Louis Partridge.
As revealed via Netflix’s TikTok account, Brown took control of the moment while she and Partridge rehearsed the scene. This resulted in Brown giving Partridge an unexpected kiss.
Here’s how she described the moment:
“Right on the rehearsal I grabbed his face and kissed him and he was like…”
Millie Bobby Brown concluded her statement by making a shocked facial expression, mimicking how Partridge appeared after the surprise moment.
“It was so cute really seeing her take the lead,” she continued. “And also seeing a girl just make the first move is just really exciting.”
This reveal, which was considered inappropriate for some fans, was followed by another such statement. Specifically, she revealed that she actually punched the actor quite hard during their fight scene together.
“Because Louis is a good friend I just kept punching him, I wasn’t doing stunts, I really was hurting him. By the end of it he said: ‘Millie can you just fake punch me,’ I was fully just getting him right in the stomach.”
Nevertheless, she added that she believes it to be “a very cute scene.”
“It’s a very cute scene and I think fans are going to love it.”
With that said, one major source of backlash came from intimacy coordinator Jessica Steinrock. She responded on her own TikTok account and wrote the following caption:
“Consent is mandatory. We don’t need to surprise kiss, we don’t need to actually hit…”
She continued to state the following in the video:
“Ooh no, I love Millie Bobby Brown but this is not the cute story you think it is. I’m sure she and her scene partner have a lot of rapport built up and a great amount of trust, but we should never be surprising anyone during a fight or intimate scene ever.”
Steinrock continued:
“At the end of the day, this basically means she didn’t ask consent to kiss him. And when your scene partner reacts in surprise after you’ve kissed them that means the communication didn’t happen the way it really needs to. Little things like this can escalate over time, and frankly she has more power in that situation than he does because she’s a really well known star,” Steinrock said. “When we do spicy scenes we love keeping light, having fun, but consent is mandatory.”
She ended her video with the following conclusion:
“For the record, I loved Enola Holmes 2 but next time we have to ask consent.”
@intimacycoordinator #stitch with @netflix consent is mandatory. We don’t need to surprise kiss, we don’t need to actually hit… #hollywood #enolaholmes #milliebobbybrown ♬ original sound – Intimacy Coordinator
As of this writing, Millie Bobby Brown has yet to respond to the criticism regarding her surprise kissing and punching. But it certainly isn’t surprising to see this kind of response. The #MeToo movement restructured how many Hollywood productions operate. This includes keeping an intimacy coordinator involved with any such scenes as the aforementioned moment.
