James Gunn and Peter Safran are quickly wrapping up their plans for the DCU. As a result, however, it looks like the former universe known as the SnyderVerse or DCEU is completely dead.
At least, that’s what an insider has claimed so far. But considering the recent announcement that Henry Cavill will no longer play Superman, it does seem like the case.
Here’s what insider @MyTimeToShineH shared via Twitter:
“In case it wasn’t [clear] by now – they’re all gone. The ending of The Flash won’t matter either way. The Snyderverse is officially dead.”
Additionally, he added that James Gunn apparently “wants a clean slate” for the next wave of DC adaptations.
“James Gunn is doing a full reboot. He wants a clean slate.”

This follows several reports that a major shakeup was happening at DC Studios. Specifically, Wonder Woman 3 was said to be dead with the same being said for any potential Man of Steel sequels. Now we know the Man of Steel reports are true given that Henry Cavill will no longer play Superman. Instead, James Gunn is writing a new Superman story that will focus on a younger iteration of the character. Additionally, Aquaman star Jason Momoa is reported to be leaving the character behind with plans to play Lobo instead.
The news will definitely have many fans upset. Especially with several upcoming projects on the way, including sequels to Shazam! and Aquaman on the way. Fans also have The Flash to look forward to, though as this insider claims, it “won’t matter either way.”
In the meantime, we’ll still have to wait for James Gunn, Peter Safran, and Warner Bros Discovery to make a formal announcement for their plans. This means we could potentially see shared characters and cast members carry into the new DCU. As such, fans should still be taking these updates with a grain of salt. But one thing is for certain – we should expect some major changes going forward. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional news as we have it.
