The Scream film franchise was successfully resurrected earlier this year. Now with the next installment on the way, Scream 6 star Melissa Barrera suggests it’ll be “a hundred times gorier.”
She revealed as much while speaking with Collider in a new interview. In fact, she discussed the film’s directors and how they “were always asking for more blood and more sweat.” It certainly sounds as though this new installment will be much crazier than its predecessor.
Here’s what Barrera had to share on that front:
“There was a saying on set because (directors) Matt [Bettinelli-Olpin] and Tyler [Gillett] were always asking for more blood and more sweat. They always just wanted more. “More blood spritz” was the saying because they would just always want more.”
She explained how this was different with the previous film which was more restrained.
“With the last Scream, they were tip-toeing and trying to be very respectful of what the franchise had been, up until that point, and keeping their inner gory dreams at bay. But with this one, they were like, “We’re going all out.” It’s potentially a hundred times gorier.”
Hopefully we’ll have a better idea of what to expect once the trailer drops. As for now, it’s excited to learn just how much gorier this new Scream entry will be.
Scream 6 was directed by 2022 Scream directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence. James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick also returned to write the screenplay. Scream creator Kevin Williamson executive produced alongside Radio Silence member Chad Villella. Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre of Spyglass were also attached as executive producers.
The cast for the film includes Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, and Dermot Mulroney. Additionally, Samara Weaving, Tony Revolori, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra, and Henry Czerny will also be appearing in the film. Courteney Cox will reprise her role as Gale Weathers while Hayden Panettiere will return as Kirby Reed for the first time since Scream 4.
