It appears that the upcoming DCU changes will impact the previously-teased Man of Steel sequel more than expected. In fact, it appears that the potential Man of Steel 2 project is likely dead with the possibility of Henry Cavill’s The Flash cameo also being cut.
This comes via THR where they reported some of the changes happening at DC Studios. As they’ve explained, there’s a rumor regarding the possibility that Man of Steel 2 being dead along with several other Snyderverse-related projects.
This is all a potential result of James Gunn and Peter Safran as they plan to remap the DCU. So, whether or not these reports come to fruition, it’s clear that there will be major changes coming in the near future.
Furthermore, they noted that while “these characters are to cameo in Flash,” referring to Henry Cavill’s Superman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, this could change. Specifically, “Cavill shot his part of the cameo in September. But sources say there is a debate inside the studio as whether or not to keep the cameo.” They also say if it’s included they have to determine “if its inclusion promises something that studio would have no plans on delivering.”
There was also a tweet put out by THR’s Borys Kit that said Man Of Steel 2 seemed to be dead:
The state of DC films before next week’s big presentation: Will Henry Cavill’s cameo in THE FLASH be cut? (TBD) Is MAN OF STEEL 2 dead? (It seems to be, despite that Insta announcement) BLACK ADAM sequel? (Let’s see that spreadsheet) Momoa as Lobo? (Go ahead and ask him) https://t.co/9cF0KPbAa7

This is interesting considering that Henry Cavill recently made a cameo in Black Adam. He also teased that he would be returning as Superman for other DCU installments. However, it seems his announcement was a little premature. Especially now that the shared universe is being refitted for whatever James Gunn and Peter Safran have in store.
Hopefully we’ll have more details soon – especially given how badly fans want Henry Cavill to retain his role as Superman. We should have more details on that front soon and whether or not Henry Cavill will be returning after all – or, of course, if Man of Steel 2 really is dead.
