Now that we know that Wolverine 3, due out next year, will be Hugh Jackman’s last turn in the iconic role, we’re all wondering what will be next for the character.
Director Bryan Singer already has an idea – he’s thinking of making the next Wolverine a woman. In an interview with Fandango, Singer said that he’s planning to move on to the X-23 storyline. Discussions have been happening with the Fox suits about it, as well as X-Force, according to the interview:
“I have discussed that with the studio,” Singer revealed. “I actually initially pitched the X-Force and the female.”
X-23, you’ll recall, was a female clone, created from Weapon X’s DNA. She was raised in captivity, with the intention of being a human weapon. After several years, she was subjected to radiation poisoning to accelerate her mutation. The her claws were forcibly extracted so the could be coated with adamantium.
