Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a number of successful films and television shows, there are occasional properties which just don’t do as well. This includes last year’s MCU film Black Widow which was released during the pandemic. The film was released after several delays which ultimately resulted in a release both in theaters and on Disney Plus. Now, however, this particular Marvel movie has become the most popular Disney Plus movie based on search results.
This news comes via SimpleGhar, where they pointed out that Black Widow is the top search result in the United States, Canada, and most of Western Europe. This is certainly a surprising reveal given that the Marvel film was a flop upon its initial release. The second most popular movie according to search results is Cruella while the third film is Raya and the Last Dragon.
The results are certainly surprising, especially given how many other films Disney has to offer. Of course, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been an otherwise popular and lucrative franchise for Disney – so it might not be too surprising after all. With rumors suggesting Scarlett Johansson might reprise her role as the titular Black Widow for the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars movie, it might even be a great time to revisit Black Widow. Though Secret Wars is still a few years ago, so it’ll be some time before we know whether or not Johansson really will return for the highly-anticipated sequel.
Meanwhile, other Black Widow-related characters have each been making reappearances in the MCU. Fans got to see Florence Pugh return as Yelena Belova following her appearance in Hawkeye, and actor David Harbour will be joining the upcoming film Thunderbolts. With that in mind, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates as we have them.
Black Widow is currently available to stream via Disney Plus with most other MCU films and shows.
