Sony has been attempting to build their own version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with mixed results. While projects like Morbius have received rather negative responses from fans, other projects like the Venom films starring Tom Hardy have been hugely successful. In fact, Tom Hardy’s Venom was so successful that he received a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. As such, fans are anxious to see what’s next for the character, and that will be answered in the yet-to-be-titled film Venom 3. Now it’s been announced that Kelly Marcel will direct Venom 3 with Tom Hardy once again starring.
As revealed in the Venom 3 announcement via Deadline, “Kelly Marcel is ready to make the jump into the director’s chair.” It’s worth noting that she not only wrote the screenplay for Venom 3, but that she also penned the scripts for the first two films as well. With that in mind, this is a massive leap forward for Marcel, and it’s exciting to see what she’ll have to offer fans.
In regards to the film’s story, that has yet to be revealed. This means it’s unclear whether or not we can expect any characters from previous films or even the Marvel Cinematic Universe to appear. It is confirmed, however, that Tom Hardy will once again be playing Eddie Brock aka Venom. So, at the very least, fans won’t have to worry about that. It was previously teased, however, that this could be the last Venom installment with Tom Hardy. If Spider-Man: No Way Home showed us anything though, it’s that anything can happen, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
Kelly Marcel has already penned the film’s script with a story she co-wrote with star Tom Hardy.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional Venom 3 updates as we have them. At this rate, it’ll be an exciting project to keep an eye on. Hopefully we’ll have more information soon.
