The National Treasure franchise will soon be revived with the upcoming Disney Plus series National Treasure: Edge of History. The new show will unite several characters from the film franchise with brand-new characters exclusive to the Disney Plus show. However, actor Nicolas Cage will be absent from the series. Many fans are no doubt upset that his iconic character won’t be making an appearance. Fortunately, however, it looks like Nicolas Cage is in talks to return to the National Treasure franchise after all.
As briefly noted in a report via THR, Nicolas Cage has been in discussions with Disney over a potential National Treasure return. Unfortunately, it’s unknown what exactly this National Treasure project could be and whether or not it’d be for the big screen or small screen like the upcoming series. It does seem likely, however, as Nicolas Cage has seen quite the renaissance regarding his film career as of late.
Similarly, they noted that Nicolas Cage has entered talks for a sequel to Face/Off. With how many original productions Nicolas Cage is continuing to work on, such as Renfield, it’s clear that we’ll have plenty of Cage coming at us either way. With that in mind, it’s clearly a great time for fans of the beloved actor. Hopefully we’ll have more concrete updates in the near future.
In any case, fans still have the Disney Plus series National Treasure: Edge of History to look forward to. The new series will see Harvey Keitel reprise his role from the films as FBI agent Peter Sadusky. In addition, Justin Bartha will reprise his role as Riley Poole. The new cast members of the series includes Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith. The series was executive produced by Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, who were also writers and producers of the film franchise.
The first two episodes of the highly-anticipated series will premiere on Disney Plus later this year on December 14, 2022. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates as we have them.
