The Silent Hill franchise is back in full swing on both the video game and film front. This is certainly exciting news for any fan of the massive multimedia franchise. On the film side of things, we’re finally getting the return of director Christophe Gans to the Silent Hill franchise. He previously directed the first live-action film adaptation from 2006. Although there was an additional Silent Hill film in 2012, titled Silent Hill: Revelation, Christophe Gans had no involvement. As such, Return to Silent Hill is being considered the proper sequel that fans have been hoping for.
While there aren’t many details available at the moment, it’s been stated that the film will adapt the fan-favorite game Silent Hill 2. This is an exciting reveal and Gans even notes that the film will have an emphasis on psychological horror. Of course, he does tease that the game’s many iconic characters will be making appearances throughout the project. This includes the notorious Pyramid Head.
Here’s the Return to Silent Hill teaser trailer which was released to accompany the film announcement:
Christophe Gans has long expressed his interest in returning to the franchise. As such, it’ll be interesting to see how this new film pans out. With such an incredible game to take inspiration from, and Christophe Gans once again at the helm, this will no doubt be an incredible film to look forward to. After so many years since his first Silent Hill project in 2006, one can hope this’ll be worth the wait.
