It’s been strongly reported that Harrison Ford entered talks for a major MCU role. Now it’s been confirmed – Harrison Ford will be playing the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the upcoming film Captain America: New World Order. He’ll be taking over for the late William Hurt who previously portrayed the character for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This confirmation comes via Deadline, where they state that he will be starring opposite star Anthony Mackie. As of this writing, however, other plot details are scarce. Though with Anthony Mackie returning as Captain America, then it looks like this film will be following the events of the Disney Plus series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
It’s worth noting that Marvel Studios currently has a Thunderbolts film in development as well. While it hasn’t yet been confirmed, it would seem reasonable that Harrison Ford will continue to play General Ross after Captain America: New World Order for this particular film. After all, General Ross is greatly connected to the Thunderbolts team in the Marvel Comics – hence the name. So, with that in mind, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates as we have them. This is certainly major news, especially for fans that didn’t know what would happen to the General Ross character.
The new sequel Captain America: New World Order will be directed by Julius Onah. The screenplay was written by Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman. Meanwhile, Spellman will also produce the film alongside Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
Captain America: New World Order will star Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Shira Haas as Sabra, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, and Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley. The Incredible Hulk actor Tim Blake Nelson will reprise his role as The Leader for the film.
Fans will be able to see Captain America: New World Order when it hits theaters on May 3, 2024.
