We have known that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine would be making an appearance in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse since we saw the character pop his claws in the latest trailer. However, due to the time changing nature of the last film, X-Men: Days of Future Past, we’re not entirely sure which version of the character we are going to see. But now thanks to an interview with the films producers, we may have an idea.
When we last saw, Logan his body was being dragged from the Potomac by Mystique in disguise as William Stryker. It was heavily implied that this would lead to the character becoming part of the Weapon X program as history dictates. It now sounds like this is in fact the case as Simon Kinberg explained in a recent interview with HeyUGuys. Kinberg revealed:
We talked about a lot of different versions, There was a version where he got introduced in the middle of the movie and became this sort of drill sergeant for the kids, but that felt like it stepped on Raven’s role of becoming the leader to the kids. There were two or three different incarnations that we tried, but none of them felt quite right. As we were constructing the movie, we always imagined that they were abducted and taken [to Alkali Lake] and that Weapon X would be there and you’d see something that you’ve never really seen in these movies before which is the full on, out of control, animalistic, stripped down Wolverine.”
It’ll definitely be interesting to see this aspect of the character on screen, especially since next year will see Hugh Jackman hang up the adamantium claws in the Third Wolverine film. Before the character leaves our screens however, you can check him out in X-Men: Apocalypse on May 18th.
