Dolph Lundgren has shown some interest for the part of Cable in the Deadpool sequel.
Speaking to Nerdist, Lundgren was asked about returning to the Marvel universe in some capacity. Here’s what he had to say:
“That’s a good question. I haven’t watched a lot of these superhero movies; for some reason, I don’t know, I’m just busy making films. I did hear in… Deadpool, isn’t there a character named Cable that’s coming? Like, he’s a big guy? I guess I could kick some butt doing that, I suppose. We’ll see. When I saw the picture, he looks a little bit like Ivan Drago mixed with Gunner Jensen mixed with… I don’t know.”
Lundgren certainly has the right looks and physique to play Cable. He’s no stranger to playing larger than life characters. Not only was he the first Punisher on the big screen but he has also played the protector of Eternia. He was of course He-Man in the 1987 film Masters of the Universe. He was also Rocky Balboa’s nemesis in the fourth Rocky film and the reason why Apollo Creed had no father figure growing up!
Cable, or Nathan Summers as he is also known, is a powerful mutant with telepathic and telekinetic powers. In the comics he is from a future realm and is able to time travel. He learns the ways of being a warrior and a mercenary. He has been a friend and enemy to Deadpool over the years.
In the end credits segment of Deadpool, the merc with a mouth says there will be a sequel and that Cable will be in it. He mentions a few names of people who may be cast, and Lundgren just happens to be one of them.
