Karl Urban really wants to play Dredd again. If his recent comments earlier this month and last month weren’t enough for you, he’s going at it again. In a recent sit down with Den of Geek, the actor expressed his desire to play the Judge again – this time saying he’s open to anything:
“I’m amenable to being involved in any legitimate and worthy follow up to Dredd, whether it be another theatrical release or a Netflix/Amazon targeted production. I think the best thing that fans can do is to continue be vocal about their support. Organize more fan screenings of Dredd, that’s one of the key factors that helped Blade Runner find its true audience.I would be blessed and it would be a privilege to make another Dredd. I feel so incredibly grateful to the fans of this movie.”
He also stated that the estimated budget for Dredd at $50 million is way overblown:
“The production budget of the film is often quoted as being $50 million, but that is completely inaccurate . The true budget of Dredd was just under $30 million. The film was both ambitious in nature yet contained.”
Surely the movie had to have made that type of money back via it’s strong home video sales (although as we all know, Alex Garland said that doesn’t matter) but what it does show is that there’s an audience for Dredd. A very vocal audience that surely wants more and won’t ever give up.
