Avengers: Infinity War is clocking down closer to its 2018 release, described by the Russo directors as “the culmination of the MCU to date”. It was only a month ago that Guardians of the Galaxy announced Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord to be making an appearance, and fans of the series have been stoked to hear announcements of other Guardians having a face.
Wait no more, as Infinity War writers Christopher Markus and Steven McFeely finally unveiled a hint of a favorite gun-trotting rodent, Rocket Raccoon. In addition, Markus spoke about how characters so versatile in their appearance would fit the tone:
Whether they’re a 12-foot purple guy, or a raccoon, or an android, they’re all people, and we’re going to write them as people. You can’t write them any other way. So, ideally it will stay grounded because you’ll completely understand why the characters are doing what they’re doing, and you will in some way or another empathize.”
Feely and Markus have shown to go outside Marvel’s usual fun formula and give something more human and realistic with the last two Captain America films. Will the audience be prepared for the new film’s expectations? McFeely spoke about the responsibility of keeping in tune with the fans:
We certainly don’t want to try to betray the Jim Starlin Thanos, all those comic runs. They get pretty trippy. That’s in the DNA of it. But before we get there, you’ll see Guardians 2, you’ll see Doctor Strange. My hope is that the movie audience will be a little bit more prepared for some trippier stuff.”
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is set to release May 2018, with Part 2 to be released May 2019.
