When it was announced that Quicksilver was set to appear in not just X-Men: Days of Future Past but also Avengers: Age of Ultron many fans were speculating as to which would truly shine. After the first image of Evan Peters was released in full costume many fans recoiled in horror to the unique choice of clothing however after the films release, fans and critics alike praised his portrayal and the impact of his scene stealing antics. Aaron Taylor-Johnsons Quicksilver on the other hand was less than stellar, with a hockey European accent and a swanky looking tracksuit being the only memorable traits. Although his death was unexpected many fans were disappointed that they didn’t get to see him develop in the Marvel universe.
Evan Peters recently spoke to yahoo and explained how he hoped they’d keep his character alive:
“I was devastated by [Quicksilver’s death in Age of Ultron], I really wanted that to keep going. I thought it was cool. I don’t really know why they killed him off.”
He went further on to explain how Aaron Taylor-Johnsons portrayal created a friendly bit of competition:
“Oh, they did that with him and that was awesome. Now we’ve got to try to top that with this. It could have been a nice little motivation.”
The actor also expressed his admiration for Taylor-Johnson’s accent in the Avengers sequel, and the swoopy thing with the lines behind.
It was certainly interesting to see the two characters grace our cinema’s in two separate films in the same year however it seems as if Evan Peters’ portrayal will be the one that people will remember. Reviews for X-Men: Apocalypse have been mixed however many state Peters has yet another show stealing scene and a couple of major moments throughout that’ll keep the die hard fans happy. It’ll be interesting to see if a certain scarlet speedster will be able to make the same impact in a couple of years time.
