Fans have been waiting years to see the National Treasure franchise continue. And, while star Nicolas Cage isn’t involved, a new Disney Plus series will revive the original franchise for a brand-new continuation. Fans finally got their first look at this continuation – titled National Treasure: Edge of History – at Disney’s 2022 D23 Expo. Now the National Treasure: Edge of History trailer has been released online for the rest of the public to see.
And, as noted below, there are more than a few references to past films. Although Nicolas Cage’s beloved character isn’t in the series, fans will notice at least one reference to him. The ocular device used by his character in the original National Treasure film can be seen in the trailer.

The trailer also gives us the official release date for the new series. It turns out that fans will be able to see the two-episode premiere of National Treasure: Edge of History this December! If this trailer is any indication, then this new series will be a perfect way to close out the year. Especially after such a long wait.
And, although Nicolas Cage doesn’t return, National Treasure: Edge of History does feature a few familiar faces from the film franchise including Harvey Keitel as FBI agent Peter Sadusky. In addition, Justin Bartha will reprise his role as Riley Poole. The new cast members of the series includes Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith. The series was executive produced by Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, who were also writers and producers of the film franchise.
The first two episodes of the highly-anticipated series will premiere on Disney Plus later this year on December 14, 2022. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates as we have them.
