With the current controversies surrounding actor Ezra Miller, fans have been anxious to know what will happen with The Flash. The upcoming superhero blockbuster has been tainted by the various allegations made against Ezra Miller this year as well as several arrests. The aforementioned events also took place after a video surfaced where Ezra Miller allegedly choked a fan. Indeed, at a time where cancel culture cost actor Johnny Depp a number of roles, it seems like Ezra Miller would face a similar fate. But it appears that’s only one of several options Warner Bros is looking into regarding The Flash.
As noted via THR, Warner Bros apparently has three different choices when it comes to releasing or not releasing The Flash. The choices they’re contemplating come after reports that Ezra Miller is now being accompanied by their mother. Furthermore, it’s been stated that Miller “will seek professional help after returning home to their farm in Vermont after being away.” And, assuming all goes well, Ezra Miller would proceed to give an interview explaining all of their actions and “their erratic behavior over the past few years.” This would be followed by “limited press” for The Flash ahead of a theatrical release date as planned. This is the first option.
The second option, interestingly enough, includes Warner Bros releasing the film regardless of whether or not Ezra Miller seeks help. Of course, if that’s the case, then it’s expected that Ezra Miller would be excluded from marketing and other such promotional events. Furthermore, Miller would be recast from the role after the film’s release. But it’s unlikely that this option would satisfy fans who are disappointed or outright disgusted by the allegations made against Miller.
With the third option, it looks like The Flash could face a fate similar to the cancelled film Batgirl. This option would result in Warner Bros completely cancelling the film. It’s simply too costly to reshoot the film so that would be their only choice in that regard. But with a $200 million budget, it would certainly be a shocking move to see happen.
As of this writing, however, the most recent statement made by Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed that they would be releasing the film as planned. So with that in mind, it might seem more likely that one of the first two choices is picked rather than the more drastic third. But as the controversies surrounding Ezra Miller continue, we’ll just have to see what happens.
The DCEU superhero film The Flash was directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay written by Christina Hodson. The story for the film was penned by John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, and Joby Harold.
The cast includes Ezra Miller, Ron Livingston, Michael Keaton, Kiersey Clemons, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Sasha Calle, and Ben Affleck.
The current release date for the film is currently scheduled for June 23, 2023.
