The Scream horror film franchise had a pretty consistent numbering system up until this year’s Scream sequel was released. The new film, rather than being titled Scream 5, was instead simply called Scream. It was a play on recent sequels which shared the same name as their predecessors. For example, the 2018 Halloween film and 2021’s Candyman. As such, it’s been unclear whether or not the next film in the series would be called Scream 6 or some other variation. Now a newly-surfaced behind-the-scenes image might’ve just revealed the actual title for Scream 6.
As you can see below, a clapper board was posted on Instagram courtesy of actor Thomas Cadrot. It appears that Cadrot has joined the exciting cast of the film and chose to celebrate by posting the aforementioned clapper board.
Interestingly, however, the film features a new logo for the film that is somewhat difficult to discern.
Here it is via Reddit since Cadrot removed the original image:
Because Thomas Cadrot removed his post of the image, it seems like he unveiled something he wasn’t supposed to. Of course, it’s difficult to tell exactly what he posted. After all, the symbols after the “SCREAM” name are difficult to determine. Some fans believe they’re exclamation points, meaning the film is being titled Scream!! and others think they’re roman numerals which would make it Scream II. Furthermore, other Scream fans believe that there’s a gap for a “6” to be placed in between the two symbols next to the title. It’s definitely a maddening logo and one that won’t make sense until it’s formally announced with the film’s title.
In any case, it certainly looks like the production team behind this one are aiming to be as creative and innovative as they can be. Whether or not that works out for longtime fans of the franchise, however, is another thing. Fans are very hard to please when it comes to Scream – especially when individuals outside of Wes Craven are involved. While the last film was more or less positively received, we’ll have to see if they make good again this time around.
