There was a time when it seemed like the Paranormal Activity film franchise would never stop. Then, for a time, it did. The last film in the franchise’s original run was the 2015 film Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension. It wouldn’t be until late last year that Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin revived the property on Paramount Plus. Now it looks like we’ll be getting yet another sequel with Paranormal Activity 8, reportedly titled Paranormal Activity: The Other Side.
The first official mention of this sequel comes from Variety. They had the opportunity to speak with producer Jason Blum, and while Blum seemed adamant about ending the Paranormal Activity franchise, they noted that there is “another installment currently eyeing a 2023 release.” One can only assume that this Paranormal Activity 8 is the same one listed on Wikipedia at the moment, which as mentioned above, is titled Paranormal Activity: The Other Side.
In fact, the Wikipedia article also has a synopsis for the film available. Unlike last year’s critically mixed Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, it looks like this film will actually be headed back to the franchise’s original storyline. This time it will allegedly focus on the events that lead to the legendary 1990s housefire that’s been referenced throughout the franchise. Here’s the synopsis:
“The Other Side will feature four young friends who move into Katie and Kristi’s childhood house together before college starts, only to discover the gruesome past of their home and it’s connection to the 1988 incidents. Set in the 1990s, it will reportedly address the fire that destroyed the property which has only been mentioned briefly in a few past installments.”
The article continues to report that the film’s screenplay was written by original Paranormal Activity writer Oren Peli. Furthermore, Wincent Sommers is listed as the film’s director. Of course, this information has yet to be officially confirmed by the studio. It’s also being reported that the film’s cast consists of Sonja Gerhardt, Chethrin Schulze, Nika Sofie, Tamara Hitz, Chany Dakota, and Leon Pelz.
Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates as we have them. It’ll certainly be interesting to see where the franchise goes next.
