Both music and movie fans are familiar with singer-songwriter and actress Olivia Newton-John. With appearances including the classic musical film Grease, she’s certainly led a massive impact on the entertainment industry. Sadly, it’s just been revealed that Olivia Newton-John has died at age 73.
This news was confirmed by her husband, John Easterling, on social media. He explained via Instagram that she “passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California.”
Naturally, her family has asked for privacy at this time.
Here’s what his full statement included:
“Dame Olivia Newton-John passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time,” he began.
“Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to theĀ @onjfoundation.”
He continued to state that she was survived by himself alongside “daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall.”
This news comes several years after it was announced Olivia Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. The actress spent the next few years battling her cancer and continuing to make the best of her career. It goes to show how great of a person she was both on and off the screen, especially having played such a lovably innocent role with Sandy in Grease. She will certainly be missed by all those who’ve enjoyed her work over the decades.
