Many fans had hoped that 2013’s The Wolverine, would finally give us the brutal version of the character we’d been waiting to see since Hugh Jackman first popped the claws back in 2000. But alas that wasn’t the case and whilst we did see a slightly darker take on the character, it wasn’t all it could be most likely due to it’s PG-13 rating. But with Deadpool showing us that R-rated superhero flicks can be successful it looks like we may finally see Logan in all his berserker glory.
In an interview with Collider, Simon Kinberg who has been a producer on the franchise revealed that not only is the movie currently filming but it is also will have the R-rating that fans have been clamoring for. Kinberg revealed to the interviewer:
“I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say about that.”
Before adding:
“I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”
A futuristic Western? Sounds a like those Old Man Logan rumors may have more weight to them than previously thought.
He also revealed a little about what we can expect to see in what will be Hugh Jackman’s final time as the character, explaining ‘It’s a very radical, bold, different Wolverine than you’ve ever seen in any of these movies,’ It definitely sounds like the film will be taking more away from Deadpool than just it’s rating, as it sounds as though it will be more influenced by the comics than previous appearances.
With the film currently shooting, we can expect our first official press release in the coming weeks, giving us a better idea as to what we can expect for the characters Swan Song. Wolverine 3 will be slicing it’s way into theaters March 3rd, 2017.
