Although it was initially only a spin-off of Arrow, the CW series The Flash has recently passed that show’s 170-episode run. This now makes The Flash the longest-running Arrowverse series on the network. However, it’s now been revealed that The Flash Season 9 will be the final season of the hit show.
This information was revealed via The Wrap along with the confirmation that The Flash Season 9 would only consist of 13 episodes.
This batch of episodes is set to begin production at some point next month. Furthermore, Executive Producer Eric Wallace gave a statement regarding the show coming to an end.
Here’s how he began his statement:
“Nine seasons! Nine years of saving Central City while taking audiences on an emotional journey full of heart, humor, and spectacle. And now Barry Allen has reached the starting gate for his last race,” he started.
He further took the opportunity to thank everyone involved with the production of the series. Furthermore, he calls this upcoming ninth season a way “to honor the show’s incredible legacy with our exciting final chapter.”
“So many amazing people have given their talents, time, and love to bring this wonderful show to life each week. So, as we get ready to honor the show’s incredible legacy with our exciting final chapter, I want to say thank you to our phenomenal cast, writers, producers, and crew over the years who helped make ‘The Flash’ such an unforgettable experience for audiences around the world.“
It can certainly be said that this is a major announcement for fans of the CW series. After all, The Flash was one of the biggest Arrowverse properties alongside Arrow itself. With so many of these iconic superhero shows now coming to an end, it’ll definitely be interesting to see where the network takes this shared universe next. As noted by Eric Wallace above, the series was “such an unforgettable experience for audiences around the world.”
While this series will be coming to an end with its 2023 season, Arrow itself came to an end in 2020. Meanwhile, the series Supergirl concluded in 2021. This particular show was quite notable as well for having initially premiered on CBS before being taken over by The CW and retroactively made part of the Arrowverse.
