One of the most vocal groups on the internet is definitely fanboys, with them registering their opinion’s on everything from which franchise is better? Annoyance that a certain actor has been cast as a fictional character and generally anything which is different to what they are used to. The film that earned the fanboys scorn this year is definitely the all female reboot of Ghostbusters, the negative response for which, has certainly had an effect on the film’s director Paul Feig.
Here’s what Feig had to say in a recent interview with New York Daily News:
“Geek culture is home to some of the biggest a–holes I’ve ever met in my life…Especially after being attacked by them for months because of this ‘Ghostbusters’ project.”
This came just days after a campaign against the film led to the trailer becoming the most disliked in YouTube history.
Much of the hate has come about due to the films choice to replace the male cast of the original, with a female cast consisting of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Feig stands by his choices, revealing:
“I don’t care what shape or size or color or anything they are, I live or die on what things are funny and whether or not people will be entertained by them. [McCarthy] Is just this hilarious woman who is so funny. I don’t care what she looks like. As long as she’s funny and is a professional. She’s hilarious.”
The film is completely devoid of fans though, with plenty of level-headed fans creating the #NotAllGhostbustersFans to distance themselves from those who would rather show their disapproval. Of course it should be pointed that some fans who dislike it, merely just to find the film to be for them, which is of course understandable as everyone has different tastes.
We won’t know how the film will actually be received until it’s release July 15th.
