Ben Affleck’s reaction to the negative press and reviews given to Batman v Superman since its release in March has become something of an internet meme, spawning the Sad Affleck videos that became very popular. But according to Birth Movies Death, he’s more than just a little sad about it.
As we learned recently, Ben Affleck was made an executive producer on Justice League, giving him more creative control over the direction of the future of the franchise. But sources from Birth Movie Death have more to add. According to them, Affleck was extremely displeased by the way that Batman v Superman turned out, and was also not even officially the director of the upcoming movie The Batman, and was still in negotiations when the movie was announced. Here’s what the article stated:
“Affleck was incredibly unhappy about the reception of BvS. He felt humiliated after spending so much of the press tour saying how much better this film would be than Daredevil. On top of that his agent was furious when Kevin Tsujihara jumped the gun and announced him as the director of The Batman – there were still negotiations happening. This move seems to help placate Affleck while also edging Zack Snyder out of a controlling central position in the DC Movieverse.”
The executive producer role for Affleck seems to be a move to give him more influence on the future of the DC movies as well as a way to make up some of the disappointment for him. Affleck, director of The Town and Argo, is very critically acclaimed for his creative work so putting him in more of a position of power is definitely a step in the right direction for WB’s publicity. Let’s just hope it pays off with the end result.
Again, we have no way of knowing for certain these sources are true, so take it with a grain of salt, but it does seem to be pretty plausible given the circumstances.
