The most recent lawsuit between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has finally come to an end, with most of the verdict going in Johnny Depp’s favor. This means that the jury found Amber Heard responsible for having defamed Johnny Depp with her op-ed. Now, as you can see below, Amber Heard wrote a statement in response to the verdict.
As you can see below, she posted her response on Twitter, explaining that she feels “disappointment” as a result of the jury’s verdict. She also believes that it was due to the “disproportionate power, influence, and sway” of Johnny Depp.
Here’s what she wrote:
“The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.
I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.
Amber Heard continues be expressing how this trial appears to have removed her ability “to speak freely.”
I believe Johnny’s attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the UK.
I’m sad I lost this case. But I am sadder still that I seem to have lost a right I thought I had as an American – to speak freely and openly.”

Her statement certainly lines up with the views she’s expressed throughout the trial. Of course, now that the jury has come to a verdict, it’s unclear how people will respond to what Amber Heard has said in the past. As such, we’ll have to wait and see if there are any other developments in the future.
