It was excitedly announced that a new Daredevil series would be arriving at Disney Plus. After the cancellation of the original Netflix series, many fans were anxious to know what would happen next with the character. They were pleasantly surprised to see Charlie Cox was still attached to the role for his Spider-Man: No Way Home appearance. But aside from that, it seemed unclear what direction was next. Now we know a little more about what Marvel has planned – and another report seems to suggest the new Daredevil series will be a continuation of the previous one.
With Netflix’s Daredevil series now available on Disney Plus, it certainly makes sense that they’d want to acknowledge it for the new series. This report comes via THR, where they explained the following about the new announcement:
“Matt Corman and Chris Ord have been tapped to write and exec produce a series that will be notable for being the first of the Netflix Marvel shows to get a new but continued series, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.”
As mentioned above, it already seemed likely that Marvel would want to keep Charlie Cox’s Daredevil consistent with the events of the Netflix series. But given that the Multiverse is in full swing, it’s nice to have additional clarification that this will be the same Daredevil. Furthermore, they note that the series is only “the first of the Netflix Marvel shows” to be getting this treatment. As such, it seems like the doorway is being pushed open for Marvel’s other Netflix shows to get the same treatment.
This means we may very well be seeing the return of Jessica Jones or The Punisher as well. For the time being, however, the Daredevil series is the only continuation announced. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates on that front as we have them. It’s definitely been a long time coming for those who were disappointed by the initial cancellation.
The original Daredevil series lasted for three seasons, while Charlie Cox reprised the role for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
