It isn’t any surprise that The Batman was a success for Warner Bros. As such, it isn’t too surprising that a sequel has now been officially confirmed. Nevertheless, it’s still exciting news, and it’s also been confirmed that star Robert Pattinson will be returning for The Batman 2 alongside director Matt Reeves.
This news, via Variety, was shared by Warner Bros at CinemaCon 2022. They were also able to confirm that Matt Reeves will be returning to write the screenplay for the highly-anticipated sequel.
As stated by Variety:
“Warner Bros. revealed its plans for another Caped Crusader story during its Tuesday evening presentation at CinemaCon, the annual trade show for theater owners. ‘The Batman’ director Matt Reeves was on hand to announce the news that he will write and direct the follow-up, but he did not provide any details about what the movie will entail.”
While there aren’t any plot details given at this time, there’s certainly no shortage of directions in which the sequel could go. After all, The Batman already introduced an array of exciting Batman villains to pick and choose from for the future. And that’s not including the possible villains they could pluck from any number of comic books or television shows. Furthermore, there are two shows based on The Batman being developed for HBO Max. This includes a series based on the Arkham Asylum and another based on The Penguin. So it’ll be interesting to see if any of those will have ties with the upcoming film sequel.
Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any further details on The Batman 2 as we have them. Now that the film has been officially greenlit, it should only be a matter of time before more news about this upcoming project is revealed. It’s definitely an exciting time to be a fan of DC.
