Although many Marvel fans were ecstatic when the trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder finally arrived, others were less than thrilled. In fact, it seems that quite a few Twitter users have been calling out actor Chris Pratt for being homophobic after the trailer launched. It seems that one joke in the trailer has been the reason for the name-calling.
As those who’ve seen the footage know, there’s a moment where Chris Pratt’s character Star-Lord is speaking with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. He gives the following word of advice:
“You ever feel lost? Just look into the eyes of the people that you love.”
While Thor takes this advice and looks directly into Star-Lord’s eyes, Star-Lord has the opposite reaction.
“Not me,” Star-Lord says.
Thor replies with the following:
“What? Just listening.”
Now Twitters users are blaming Chris Pratt for the line, insisting that the actor is homophobic as a result of his delivery. One tweet in particular has gotten well-over 100,000 likes as of this writing. In fact, many of these tweets have gained tens of thousands of likes, suggesting that many of these Twitter users feel the same way. As you can see below:

I don’t care how starved we are for representation I would rather eat my own foot than see Chris Pratt kiss Thor. https://t.co/i56xF1C07Q

on one hand if Thor has homoerotic tension w/ Starlord in Love and Thunder I’m gonna be so mad bc Thorbruce supremacy on the other hand it would be SO FUNNY for Chris Pratt’s homophobic ass to have to be gay on the big screen 😭😭😭

This all trails back to early 2019, where Chris Pratt was first called homophobic for having attended Hillsong Church. Of course, Chris Pratt has since denied that he or his church have any kind of homophobic viewpoints, and he’s consistently emphasized his desire to be open and loving to everyone. Nevertheless, it seems certain Twitter users still have a desire to target Chris Pratt and call the actor homophobic. It’s especially strange that they’d choose a scene from Thor: Love and Thunder to express this as well, considering it would’ve been written and directed by people that aren’t Chris Pratt. And yet Chris Pratt finds himself at the center of all the controversy.
As such, it’ll be interesting to see how this backlash continues once Chris Pratt returns for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 next year.
