The iconic Percy Jackson and the Olympians books are set to get a new adaptation at Disney Plus. This time the books will be adapted as an original series, and it’s just been revealed that actor Walker Scobell has been cast in the lead role as the titular Percy Jackson. This is exciting news, especially for fans of the books.
This information comes via Variety, and it’s just the latest update for the series which was first ordered in January. While there have been two film adaptations of the books in the past, this new series will be a new attempt at adapting the source material. Because the previous two films weren’t particularly well-received, this series is expected to be a much more faithful and appropriate interpretation of the books.
Here’s how Percy Jackson, the character being played by Walker Scobell, is described by Variety:
“Percy is described as a smart and compassionate kid with a sharp sense of humor. He’s always seen himself as an outsider, in no small part because of how the world sees his ADHD and dyslexia. He’s impulsive and rambunctious and is quick to anger when things seem unfair to him. But beneath his cynicism is an affectionate son and loyal friend who just wants to do right by those he cares about. If only he could find a place where he fits in.”
James Bobin is attached to direct the pilot for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which will be written by Rick Riordan and Jon Steinberg. Rick Riordan wrote the original novels that the series and aforementioned films were based on. At this rate, we should have more casting news soon for the series. As such, fans of Percy Jackson and the Olympians can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates on the Disney Plus series as we have them. It’s definitely going to be an exciting project for fans.
