One of the biggest surprises in The Batman had to have been the appearance (obvious spoilers if you haven’t seen the film) of Eternals actor, Barry Keoghan as longtime Batman nemesis, The Joker. The actor appeared close to the end of the film in Arkham Asylum, introducing himself to Paul Dano’s recently incarcerated Riddler as a potential friend – teasing a potential partnership somewhere down the line.
Director Matt Reeves has not been quiet about this cameo, even going so far as to reveal that an early scene was cut from the film in which Robert Pattinson’s titular hero visits the Clown Prince of Crime to gain some insight into the Riddler Killings in a scene reminiscent of Clarice Starling and Hannibal Lector in Silence of the Lambs.
Luckily for us, that scene has now made its way online so we can see more of Keoghan’s take on the character and more importantly, his interactions with Pattinson. Check it out below:
As you can see from the scene, this is a different take on the character than what we have seen before, with the character’s face appearing to be much more scarred than previous iterations. This is likely due to be brought on from the characters dip into the chemical bath that created him in the comics. It’s definitely an interesting choice for the characters to already have a relationship, given that it is such a big part of the lore.

It looks as though Keoghan will be an interesting foil to Pattinson’s Batman – but given that there are still plenty of characters yet to make their live action debut, it could be a while before we see the characters throw down. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
The Batman is currently playing in theaters.
