There’s a lot of anticipation for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the highly-anticipated sequel to Black Panther. The new film is slated to take many new directions with the material, further pushing things forward for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its many unique characters. As such, it’s going to be quite an ambitious project, and now one of its stars has emphasized it’ll be even better than the first film. Specifically, actress Angela Bassett claims that Black Panther 2 is “going to top [the first] one.”
She revealed this while speaking with THR. Angela Bassett was taking the opportunity to talk about her role as Ramonda, the Queen Mother of Wakanda.
Here’s what she had to say:
“It’s going to be amazing. It’s going to top [the first] one. Can I say that? Marvel, can I say that?”
Angela Bassett continued with the following, explaining that Ryan Coogler was the “perfect leader” for directing the upcoming MCU film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever:
“It is. He was such an example, such a leader, an amazing talent — we all know that. Big heart, great intellect, and we just hope to raise his standard. It will be amazing. Our director Ryan Coogler. Writer. Director. Perfect leader.”
While the new film will still honor the title role played by the late Chadwick Boseman in the first Black Panther film, it’s obvious they hope to reach new heights with this sequel. With the claims made by Angela Bassett, it’ll be interesting to see where this project goes.
Ryan Coogler will direct Black Panther 2 from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole.
The cast we can currently expect for the new MCU film includes Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett. Michaela Coel and Tenoch Huerta will also be joining the film’s cast.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as of this writing, is scheduled to hit theaters on November 11, 2022.
