With the release of the fifth Scream film earlier this year, it was announced soon after that Scream 6 would be going into development. It was an exciting announcement, especially so soon after the release of Scream (aka Scream 5), and now another exciting announcement has followed. It’s been confirmed that franchise veteran Courteney Cox will be returning for Scream 6.
The actress revealed as much while speaking on the Just for Variety with Marc Malkin podcast, and noted that she already received the script for the film. With production scheduled to begin this summer, it certainly sounds as though everything is on track.
Here’s what Courteney Cox said specifically regarding the Scream 6 script:
“I got the script yesterday. And I haven’t read it yet. I just got it, and I’m so used to getting, you know, Shining Vale scripts, which are 26 pages, and I’m, ‘Whoah, I’ve got to read a script.’ I’m excited to read it.”
It’s certainly a good sign to see Courteney Cox involved with the upcoming Scream sequel. When production on the previous film began, it was unclear if the original cast members would sign on right away. Naturally, everyone was hesitant without the late Wes Craven’s involvement. But after the release of Scream, it became clear that the franchise was in good hands. As such, it’ll be interesting to see what direction this next sequel will take the series. Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates on Scream 6 as we have them. The film is intended to start shooting in June, so we should have plenty of news to report around then.
The highly-anticipated sequel, Scream 6, will be directed by 2022 Scream directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence. James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick will also return to write the script. Kevin Williamson will executive produce, alongside Radio Silence member Chad Villella. Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre of Spyglass will also act as executive producers.
