Actor William Hurt has had quite the career over the decades, most popularly appearing in films across the Marvel Cinematic Universe a little over the last decade. It’s now been revealed that William Hurt has died at the age of 71. This news comes just a week before his 72nd birthday.
The news, which comes via Deadline, was shared by his son. As they’ve noted, “it was announced in May 2018 that the elder Hurt had terminal prostate cancer that had spread to the bone.” It’s been stated that he “died peacefully,” however, “among family.”
As mentioned in the official statement shared by his family via Deadline:
“It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday. He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time,” they wrote.
Other than the Marvel Cinematic Universe, William Hurt proved his acting skills in a variety of projects. Some of these earned him the Academy Awards nomination for Best Actor three consecutive times in the 1980’s. This included his appearances for Kiss of the Spider Woman which he won, as well as Children of a Lesser God and Broadcast News. He later won a fourth Academy Award nomination in 2005 for A History of Violence. It’s clear that he had a number of skills for a variety of genres, and that his talent was truly appreciated.
Of course, it has been his appearances in recent years in such Marvel films as The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow, and other projects that have given him further appreciation from modern moviegoers. He’s an actor that will truly be missed. William Hurt is survived by his four children.
