Much like fan-favorite Firefly, Young Justice is another unjustly cancelled television show with a loyal fan base determined to bring it back however they can. Although going by what the show’s producer had to say, these efforts may very much be in vain.
On a recent episode of the Shanlian on Batman podcast, Young Justice producer and writer Brandon Vietti dropped the bombshell which is sure to disappoint fans of the Cartoon Network series. Talking to the host Vietti revealed:
“It’s like all above my pay grade. If there’s anything going on it’s like way above me.”
Before going on to elaborate:
“It’s one of those things where like Greg [Weisman] and I developed a show, but with other people’s characters. You know what I mean? So, it’s not ours to go pitch. I wish I could tell you more. I wish I could say ‘Yeah we’re in talks!’ But, I’m not in any talks. It’s not for me. It’s not my thing to go talk about. Maybe we’ll get some good news about it someday. Greg and I, Phil Bourassa, our character designer, we’re all anxious to jump back in the world. We have more stories to tell, we’d love to do it and honestly we’re on stand by until our bosses come and say, ‘We want to make more.”
So it sounds like fans of the show shouldn’t expect to see a third season anytime soon, especially with a rumored Justice League cartoon on the horizon.
The cult show ran for two seasons between 2010 and 2013 on Cartoon Network before being cancelled in favor of Beware the Batman which itself ended up cancelled before it’s first Season had concluded. The show can still be found on Netflix and various other streaming services.
