The Evil Dead franchise is set to make a major comeback this year. Aside from the upcoming film Evil Dead Rise, which will be the first movie in the series since Evil Dead in 2013, we have a new video game on the way as well. However, it looks like that will be coming a little later than expected, as a delay was just announced. While Evil Dead: The Game was previously given a February 2022 release date, it has been delayed until this May.
While this may be disappointing news for fans of the beloved horror franchise, it seems to be in everyone’s best interest. Apparently the delay was issued to give the game extra time to polish and make sure it’s running smoothly for its inevitable launch.
The developers behind the game issued the following statement on Twitter alongside the delay announcement:
“When we set out to create a brand new game worthy of the Evil Dead franchise, we knew it had to be groovy as hell. In order to deliver the best possible experience, Evil Dead: The Game is now coming on May 13, 2022. This delay gives our team the time they need to get things just right, so your boomstick will be polished, fully loaded, and ready to blast Deadites on that Friday the 13th of May. We thank you for your patience and understanding.”
On the bright side, it looks like we can expect the promotional campaign for the game to start revving up as well. They gave us a date for when the next trailer will be released, and it turns out it’ll be this February.
“Don’t worry, you won’t have to wait too long for more news: stay tuned for pre-order info and a BRAND NEW TRAILER in February!”
As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for updates on the game as we have them. As for now, we know the game will be a co-op and PvP multiplayer title for PC, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game will also include a massive cast from the films and TV series including Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, Ray Santiago as Pablo Simon Bolivar, and Dana DeLorenzo as Kelly Maxwell. It will also include Ellen Sandweiss as Cheryl Williams, Marcus Gilbert as Arthur from Army of Darkness, and Richard DeManincor as Scotty from the original film. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg for this game.
The new official release date for Evil Dead: The Game after being delayed is May 13, 2022.
