Many fans have been waiting for the planned live-action Masters of the Universe film to come to fruition. The project has been announced several times over the years, alongside various changes and delays. This latest news update, however, seems to spell good news for the reboot. As it turns out, Netflix has acquired the live-action Masters of the Universe film with plans to cast actor Kyle Allen in the lead.
This news was revealed via Deadline, where they explained previous actor Noah Centineo who was attached to the lead role had been replaced. With Kyle Allen now in the lead role, it’s clear that they’re getting serious about production and moving things forward.
Here’s what Robbie Brenner, executive producer of Mattel Films, had to say:
“Masters of the Universe is an iconic property that shaped the imaginations of an entire generation of kids with the message of becoming the best version of yourself,” he began. “With our partners at Netflix, we look forward to showing audiences that anything can happen in Eternia. We are continuing to unlock this global franchise in new ways, and we can’t wait to see Kyle battle it out with Skeletor in this epic live-action saga.”
Producers Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch noted how excited they were to see the film get to this point after 14 years:
“We’ve always been inspired by the fantastical world of Eternia. This movie has been 14 years in the making for us and our partners and we are so excited to tell an entirely new story for Masters of the Universe with the Nee Brothers and Dave Callaham for Mattel and Netflix and share it with a global audience.”
As for the plot of this new live-action Masters of the Universe film…
“An orphan named Adam discovers he is a prince destined to be the savior of a faraway land and must quickly learn of his power and the importance of saving his true home from an evil force.”
The film will retain previously announced directors Adam and Aaron Nee. They wrote the screenplay alongside David Callaham.
