The 2009 horror film Orphan surprised audiences with Isabelle Fuhrman’s performance as Esther, a murderous woman who eerily pretends to be a young 9-year-old girl. The film has only grown in popularity over the years since, and now it appears that Esther will be returning in a brand-new prequel movie. As shown in a newly released trailer, Orphan: First Kill will once again see Isabelle Fuhrman in the title role.
The filmmakers used a variety of techniques to make the now 24-year-old actress appear like a 9-year-old again. As such, there’s been a lot of anticipation to see how the technical process turned out.
Now we’ve gotten our first glimpse of those techniques with the official Orphan: First Kill trailer.

It certainly looks like the film will do justice to what the original started way back in 2009. With over a decade having passed, it seemed quite unlikely that we’d ever see a prequel to such a unique type of film. But it appears that we will, and that this prequel will be equally unique.
Here’s the plot of Orphan: First Kill, which takes place before the events of the original Orphan movie…
“Leena Klammer is a woman suffering from hypopituitarism, after impersonating as “Esther”, the missing daughter of Katie Mauerova and Richard Mauerova. Katie becomes convinced that it isn’t her daughter, while Richard disagrees, believing that his wife is suffering from paranoia and hallucinating. Leena tries to separate them, causing some major problems to the family. But Katie was quick to discover Leena’s dark past and murderous history, threatening her, Leena becomes outrageous, committing her ‘First Kill.'”
William Brent Bell directed the film. The screenplay was written by David Coggeshall, based on a story by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and the original film’s screenwriter, Alex Mace.
The cast for the film stars Isabelle Fuhrman who reprises her role as Esther from the first film. Also starring in the film is Julia Stiles, Rossif Sutherland, Matthew Finlan, Morgan Giraudet, Hiro Kanagawa, Doris Wilkerson, Jade Michael, and Kennedy Irwin as Isabelle Fuhrman’s body double.
