One of the more recent growing franchises started with A Quiet Place. The science-fiction horror film introduced a world ravaged by killer aliens, and it eventually spawned a sequel titled A Quiet Place Part II which premiered last year. While a second main sequel has been teased, it appears that the next film in the series will instead be a spin-off. What’s more, it’s been revealed that Pig director Michael Sarnoski will helm this spin-off of A Quiet Place.
This news comes via Deadline, where they revealed that Michael Sarnoski would be replacing Jeff Nichols who previously left the spin-off. This should be an interesting change, considering how subversive of a film Pig ended up being. However, because this A Quiet Place spin-off is so early in development, there aren’t any plot details available.
As noted by Deadline:
“Not much more is known about this project other than it not being a threequel but rather a spinoff, based on an idea from John Krasinski.”
Furthermore:
“The hope is this film would help set up a potential Quiet Place universe that the studio can build on for years to come. It is also known that, while not out of the question, Emily Blunt and Krasinski likely would not reprise their roles in this installment.”
John Krasinski is returning to produce this spin-off. He’ll be joined alongside fellow producers Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller. With suspected plans for a second official sequel to A Quiet Place and this new spin-off, the sci-fi horror film is growing into quite the franchise. It’ll be interesting to see what else comes after these projects, especially if it’s a “universe that the studio can build on for years to come” as mentioned above. There’s a growing desire for cinematic universes, and this very well could be the next big one.
