The next installment in the Saw film franchise is currently being prepared. The series expanded to include a brand new storyline with the release of Spiral: From the Book of Saw, but now things are reportedly going back to the franchise’s roots. In fact, it looks like the next Saw film might just feature the return of Tobin Bell as John Kramer.
This is something which was previously teased, when writer Josh Stolberg noted that the film “is gonna make John Kramer fans very happy!” Of course, it was unclear just how that would happen. Now, according to One Take News, it looks like the film will actually be told from John Kramer’s point-of-view.
Here’s what their source stated:
“The upcoming Saw movie is planned to be very much a John Kramer story … The idea is that the story is being told from Kramer’s point of view as opposed to following the trap victims. We’ve been told that it’s planned to take place prior to Saw III although we couldn’t find out when specifically. Sadly, no other characters are slated to return at the moment but since the script is in the early stages, this could change in the future.”
This would definitely be an interesting way to continue the franchise, especially after the direction that Spiral: From the Book of Saw took. It also makes sense that, in order to focus on Tobin Bell as John Kramer, they would set the film before Saw III. After all, John Kramer died in that film – with following installments merely using the character for flashbacks. With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see what comes of this project and how true these reports are. As always, fans should take this information with a grain of salt.
Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg are writing the next Saw film, which will be produced by Oren Koules and Mark Burg.
