After 2021 gave us quite a few highly anticipated blockbusters, especially those that were delayed in 2020, it’s time to get excited for 2022. There are just as many highly anticipated films this time around, and Fandango put up a survey to find out which ones are at the top of everyone’s list. Interestingly, the upcoming MCU sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actually reached the number one spot on the most anticipated list for 2022.
In fact, most of the films featured on the list by Fandango are superhero films from either Marvel or DC. Some of the non-superhero films featured on the list, however, include Jurassic World: Dominion, Avatar 2, and Top Gun: Maverick. So there’s definitely going to be plenty of variety for those that are looking for something else.
As noted on the list, here are the top ten most anticipated blockbusters:
1. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
2. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One)
3. The Batman
4. Thor: Love and Thunder
5. Jurassic World: Dominion
6. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
7. Avatar 2
8. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
9. Top Gun: Maverick
10. Mission: Impossible 7
Here’s what else Fandango’s survey discovered about moviegoers:
- 94% want to go to the theater more often in 2022 than they did in 2021
- 89% were gratified to see new movie releases on the big screen this year.
- 88% are excited by the 2022 line-up of theatrical releases.
- 86% picked Action/Adventure as one of their favorite genres.
- 80% hope to see five or more movies on the big screen in 2022.
- 70% plan to attend in premium large-screen formats whenever possible.
- All survey respondents attended at least one movie in the last year and were surveyed during the first three weeks of December.
It’s definitely looking like 2022 will be another great year for blockbusters. Especially with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on the way, it’s easy to see why it made the top of the most anticipated films for 2022 list.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is currently scheduled to hit theaters on November 11th, 2022.
