Tom Holland continues to cast doubt on whether or not he’ll suit up for a potential Spider-Man 4 movie. Holland is coming off an immense amount of success with Spider-Man: No Way Home which opened last week. However, in the press tour leading up to the film, Holland continued to make some interesting comments about his future as Spidey.
After completing his Spider-Man trilogy and other projects such as Uncharted lined up for next year, Holland wants to take a step back and enjoy life for a bit. The 25-year-old has mentioned that he’d like to start a family soon, and also recently stated that if he’s playing Spider-Man after he’s 30 then he’s “done something wrong.” If that’s the case, Sony and Marvel better get the ball rolling on a new film quick, because time is running out.
In particular, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Holland noted that the future of Spider-Man may not include him.
“In all honesty, I don’t know the answer to that question. There have been conversations about the future of Spider-Man. Whether it will be with me, I’m not too sure yet. Maybe I’ll be a producer or something, I don’t know. But I do know that I love this character and I would be sad to say goodbye, but I have achieved basically everything I wanted to achieve as this character. I really think I’m gonna win the Oscar for this movie, so that’s great. So, I’m ready. I’m ready to say goodbye.”
Tom Holland not returning to continue the story of his Spider-Man would certainly be a disappointment. Especially given how the character left things off in Spider-Man: No Way Home. With that being said, producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal have revealed that they’re already developing the next chapter of Spider-Man’s story. Whether or not that will include Holland remains to be seen.
