With so many villains from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s hard not to think back to those classic films. One of the most iconic scenes that constantly gets referenced is the scene from the original Spider-Man where the titular superhero kisses Mary Jane while hanging upside down. It’s a moment that’s become a piece of pop culture history, and it makes sense that actor Tom Holland would likewise want to recreate his own version of the kiss scene. In fact, he mentioned that it’s the scene he’d prefer to recreate the most. However, it wouldn’t be Tom Holland’s Spider-Man kissing Zendaya’s MJ.
As revealed in an interview with CinemaBlend, Tom Holland mentioned he would prefer a twist – where he and Jacob Batalon’s Ned Leeds share a kiss instead. It’d definitely be a surprising twist on the moment for sure.
Here’s how Tom Holland and his co-stars brought up their recreation of the scene:
CinemaBlend: “If you guys have the opportunity to go over and act one scene from one of the previous franchises which one would you love to have a chance at acting in?”
Tom: “That’s a great question.”
Zendaya: “You already said yours the other day.”
Tom: “Did I?”
Zendaya: “I don’t know. Maybe you changed what it is.”
Jacob: “I know what it is. That’s messed up. You don’t remember?”
Tom: “Oh! I know what it is. I want to go and do the upside-down making out scene in the rain right now…. Jacob, let’s go. Let’s do it. ”
Zendaya: “Harness up Jacob, you two have fun.”
While the group is obviously joking, it’s definitely possible that they did recreate some scenes from Sam Raimi’s iconic trilogy. After all, with the nostalgic elements of including so many villains from those films – it’d certainly be the perfect time to. Either way, it goes to show how great of friends these three are both on the screen and behind the scenes.
The upcoming MCU film was directed by Jon Watts from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, and Hannibal Buress are all attached to appear.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2021.
