Although the marketing campaign for Spider-Man: No Way Home initially started off quite slow, things have been moving at full speed with the film’s release date around the corner. For example, we’ve seen plenty of new clips from the film featuring Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and the various villains that will be appearing in the new film. And while it’s still unconfirmed if Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield will appear or not, it is evident that most of their foes will. This includes Willem Dafoe, who will be returning as the iconic Green Goblin for Spider-Man: No Way Home. While we’ve previously only seen the character in his mechanical mask and armor, the first clip featuring an unmasked Green Goblin has now been released.
The clip is part of the overall Villains Panel video that’s currently available on the official Spider-Man YouTube channel. The video opens with the clip, in which Willem Dafoe can be seen as Green Goblin, albeit unmasked and hooded. It’s an interesting new look for the character, and somewhat brings it closer to the comic books from which Green Goblin originated. The video then further continues with Willem Dafoe explaining what it was like returning to the world of Spider-Man and how much more comfortable the costume is to wear now.
As he stated:
“I stood there for eight hours and they put different pre-form pieces on me. Now, they scan me and they can design it and then make the costume, and then try it on me. It’s a huge leap in the technology. They’re more flexible. We can do more things with them.”
He also elaborated that this version of the Green Goblin is a little more advanced than the one we saw in the original Spider-Man film.
“It looks a little different… Old Norman and the Goblin are further down the line and they have a few more tricks up their sleeve. So it’s not an exact — There have been upgrades on the costume, let’s say.”
It’ll definitely be interesting to see how these characters and the actors portraying them will ultimately be used in the final film. With the Multiverse at play, anything is possible, and there’s no telling what could happen.
The upcoming MCU film was directed by Jon Watts from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, and Hannibal Buress are all attached to appear.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2021.
