Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson wowed audiences when they starred throughout the early phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe together. With Chris Evans as Captain America and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, the two represented some of the most iconic superheroes that the MCU had to offer. Now with the two having moved on from the franchise, many fans were hoping that the two would reunite on a brand new project. As such, it seemed like the upcoming film Ghosted would’ve been that project – as it was initially announced with both Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson attached.
However, as revealed via Deadline, this is no longer the plan. It seems that the reason behind Scarlett Johansson’s departure from the project is nothing more than the result of scheduling conflicts.
As noted via the site:
“Scarlett Johansson, Evans’ oft-collaborator in the Marvel movies, has amicably exited the picture in what sources describe as a scheduling conflict.”
Interestingly, however, the film will still mark something of a reunion. Scarlett Johansson’s replacement is none other than actress Ana de Armas, who Chris Evans already worked with on the excellently-received murder mystery Knives Out. So although fans aren’t getting the long-anticipated reunion between Evans and Johansson, it looks like Ghosted will still bring back one of Evans’ beloved co-stars.
Ghosted will be an Apple Original Films romantic action adventure film, set to be directed by Dexter Fletcher. Chris Evans is attached as a producer on the film, while co-star Ana de Armas will be attached as an executive producer. Meanwhile, Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger are all producing the film as well.
It’s unclear beyond the genre what the film’s plot will be about. However, with production on the movie scheduled for this February, fans of Chris Evans and Ana de Armas should expect more information soon.
