A 2014 horror film titled Deliver Us From Evil is currently moving its way up the charts with Netflix. Of course, it probably shouldn’t be a surprise considering the film’s director. Scott Derrickson, who Marvel fans may recognize as the director of Doctor Strange, actually directed the flick. It should be noted, however, that he’s had some major experience within the horror genre. For example, he also directed the hit films The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister. He also directed an installment of the Hellraiser franchise, Hellraiser: Inferno, which was his first feature film. Obviously, he’s a guy that knows his stuff, and this movie is proof of that.
Now, as noted via FlixPatrol, it appears that Netflix has seen a rise on its charts with Deliver Us From Evil. In particular, the film has jumped 35 places on the most-watched list of the streaming platform overnight as of this writing. These are some pretty impressive numbers and proves that the film is still something of a hit with audiences. While it might not be as well-known as some of Scott Derrickson’s other horror works, it’s definitely proof that he’s a talented director within the genre.
What’s more, Deliver Us From Evil ultimately gets quite outlandish towards the end of the film. While that isn’t quite something that happens with horror movies very often these days, it’s proof that going gonzo can still excite fans as well. Hopefully Netflix will begin streaming even more weird or wacky underrated horror films based on the ratings success on its charts for titles like this.
Deliver Us From Evil was directed by Scott Derrickson from a screenplay he wrote with Paul Harris Boardman. The film itself was based on the non-fiction book Beware the Night by Ralph Sarchie and Lisa Collier Cool.
Meanwhile, the cast for the film also stars some pretty big names. This includes Eric Bana, Edgar Ramirez, Olivia Munn, Sean Harris, and more.
