Tilda Swinton Responds To DOCTOR STRANGE Whitewashing Criticism

    By Jesse BoroughApril 23, 2016

While the casting of Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One in Marvel’s upcoming movie Dr. Strange has been lauded by most people, many are also concerned about the fact that the Ancient One was originally an Asian character in the comics– thereby making this yet another case of Hollywood whitewashing its casting roles.

Tilda Swinton herself, though, has responded to the controversy:

“I wasn’t asked to play an Asian character, you can be very well assured of that,” she told reporters. “You just have to wait and see, because it’s not an Asian character.”

The Ancient One was a Tibetan monk in the original Dr. Strange comics (and a man at that), but from what Tilda Swinton has said about this, we may see some interesting deviations from the comics when Dr. Strange hits theaters in November.
