Warner Bros. Pictures co-CEOs and chairmen Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy had a lengthy discussion regarding the studio’s upcoming slate. They let slip a number of interesting projects they have in development, including a remake of a rather popular 1992 thriller.
The Warner Bros. library is full of notable and iconic properties, so it’s no surprise that they’re eagerly developing a remake of this particular thriller that also included romantic drama elements. Interestingly, however, we also know that there are already some big names attached.
The original film was written by Lawrence Kasdan and directed by Mick Jackson. It went on to make $411 million at the worldwide box office during its theatrical run with only a $25 million budget.
As noted in a new report, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour director Sam Wrench and Juror No. 2 writer Jonathan A. Abrams are both attached to direct and write the remake, respectively.
Here’s what Deadline shared on that front:
“Warner Bros has just set plans to revamp The Bodyguard, the 1992 romantic drama thriller that teamed superstars Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston.”
While we know who will be writing and directing this new remake of the thriller The Bodyguard, there still haven’t been any details regarding the film’s cast. However, with the original notably starring both Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, they must no doubt have some big names in mind to star.
While it did receive seven nominations at the 13th Golden Raspberry Awards, it has still been recognized as a popular and successful film, with Houston’s accompanying soundtrack album becoming the best-selling soundtrack album of all time.
Warner Bros. should definitely have an interesting time continuing to put this remake together. After all, with the numerous musical talents to choose from in today’s world, they could have an even bigger hit on their hands. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates as we have them.
