Amazon Prime Video has been one of the biggest streaming services to appear following Netflix. Alongside the likes of Disney Plus and Hulu, it provides some of the biggest exclusive movies and shows. Sadly, not all of them get a chance to get very far, as it’s been revealed Amazon Prime Video has canceled two of their series.
The confirmation was given by Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios. The two series happen to be connected to one of the platform’s biggest titles and, while the original title is set to continue, it looks like the two spin-offs were no longer worth renewing.
Amazon has continued to expand its original content lineup in hopes of competing with top-tier streamers like Netflix and Disney Plus. With major hits like The Boys and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the platform has proven it can deliver both critical acclaim and strong viewership.
Still, not every project manages to find its audience. In some cases, even well-produced series are quietly cut as part of larger strategic shifts behind the scenes. Various different factors behind the scenes can end up playing a part – meaning cancellations can sometimes be not only related to viewership.
Here is the statement to Deadline that was given by Vernon Sanders about the cancellation of these two Amazon Prime series:
“Having successfully traversed India and Italy, storylines from both Citadel: Honey Bunny and Citadel: Diana will be woven into the upcoming second season of the mothership series Citadel,” Sanders began.
“While these successful and widely enjoyed international chapters will not continue as individual series, Season 2 of Citadel will be our most exhilarating yet,” he continued. “With high-stakes storytelling, new additions to our amazing cast and bold, cinematic ambition, the new season will deepen the emotional journeys of Nadia, Mason and Orlick against the relentless force that is Manticore. We’re excited to share what’s next when Citadel Season 2 premieres globally in Q2 of 2026.”
Each spin-off has only lasted a single season. While they have been said to perform well in their local markets, it looks like both Citadel: Diana and Citadel: Honey Bunny have failed to find a big enough audience globally. As a result, Amazon Prime Video decided they weren’t worth the investment. Now the platform is focusing solely on wrapping up Citadel Season 2. It’s scheduled to premiere sometime in 2026.
