Actor Nicky Katt led a surprising career in Hollywood from his first role on an episode of Fantasy Island in 1980 to his later appearances in quite a few modern day hits. Sadly, it’s been confirmed that Katt has died at age 54.
The unfortunate news “was reported by his friends and by attorney John Sloss,” according to Variety, with the outlet mentioning that Katt reportedly passed away “on April 8 in Burbank.” As further reported by TMZ, Katt appears to have committed suicide.
His sister, Elise Ravenscroft, released the following statement:
“Today, with the heaviest of hearts, I share the devastating news of my brother’s passing. He died by suicide after battling with depression—one that he fought bravely but quietly. This is a pain no family should endure, yet far too many do. Mental illness is real, it is powerful, and it is often invisible. We hope that by sharing this, we can help break the silence and stigma that so often surrounds mental health struggles.”
Katt had a diverse career in both film and television. His earliest film appearances include small roles in Underground Aces, Gremlins, and The ‘Burbs. He later gained notoriety for playing Clint Bruno in the 1993 hit Dazed and Confused as well as SubUrbia (1996) and Boiler Room (2000).
As for television, Katt appeared in two episodes of the 1984 TV series V, forty-nine episodes of the 2000 series Boston Public where he appeared as Harry Senate, and a variety of other guest appearances. This included voice work on animated shows as well like King of the Hill.
His most recent roles included appearances in Sin City, Planet Terror, Death Proof, and a small role as a “S.W.A.T. Member” in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. He also extended his acting talents to the video game industry for the 2004 Star Wars title Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. He voiced the character Atton Rand.
Ultimately, Katt had a very diverse acting career spanning several mediums and numerous genres. This is definitely disappointing news for fans of the actor, especially knowing that Katt appeared in so many different works throughout his career. Whether he was appearing for a short time or as a lead, he was often memorable in his performances.
Nicky Katt was previously married to Annie Morse from the year 1999 to 2001. They later divorced, with many details about Katt’s personal life having been private since.
