Director Ari Aster‘s filmography has received plenty of attention for its combination of horror, social commentary, and dark comedy. It’s no surprise then, with films like Hereditary, Midsommar, and Beau Is Afraid under his belt, that fans are anxious for his next movie Eddington – the trailer for which has been shared below.
As with his previous three features, Ari Aster both wrote and directed Eddington himself. The story dives more into the territory of dark comedy first explored by Aster’s Beau Is Afraid. This time, however, it will be set against the backdrop of being a contemporary Western.
It’s a very different effort from Aster, whose first two films Hereditary and Midsommar made him a major name in the horror genre. Now film fans of all kinds are interested to see what other stories he has to offer. Especially when Beau Is Afraid broke the mold for his directorial style.
Here’s the first official trailer for Ari Aster’s Eddington:

The cast of Eddington is led by Joaquin Phoenix as Sheriff Joe Cross, which reunites Phoenix with Aster after he starred as the titular character in Beau Is Afraid. Other cast members for the film include Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr., William Belleau, Cameron Mann, Matt Gomez Hidaka, and Amélie Hoeferle.
It’s definitely interesting to see Aster take another experimental project following the outcome of Beau Is Afraid at the box office. The director’s first dark comedy only made $12.3 million with a $35 million budget. Meanwhile, Hereditary made $87.8 million on a $10 million budget and Midsommar made $48 million on a $9 million budget. It’ll be interesting to see how Eddington performs in comparison.
Eddington is scheduled to hit theaters this year following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the latest feature film endeavor from writer and director Ari Aster as we have them.
